
President, University of Puget Sound
Thomas assumed duties as president of the University of Puget Sound on July 16, 2003. Prior to his appointment, Thomas served as college vice president at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., and also was the acting president at Trinity in 2001-2002.
An expert in Victorian literature and culture and a professor of English at Trinity since 1990, Thomas previously was a member of the English department at the University of Chicago from 1982-90 and was named Mellon Faculty Fellow in the Humanities at Harvard University for 1991-92.
Thomas received his bachelor of arts degree in literature (magna cum laude) from Wheaton College (Illinois) and his master of arts and doctor of philosophy in English and American literature from Brandeis University. He also holds an honorary degree from Trinity.
