1) A brighter future
Washington needs students with smarts. Business leaders tell us that they are looking for employees with more than just the skills to do a job. They need critical thinkers who can solve problems creatively, communicate effectively, and work hard as part of a team. They're describing the graduates of ICW member colleges: Young women and men who hit the market with career-specific expertise and, more importantly, with a broad-based education that emphasizes critical thinking, lifelong learning, ethics, leadership, and community service.
2) Expand choice and opportunity
Independent colleges can deliver a high-quality brand of learning - but only with your help. While public colleges and universities are largely supported by taxpayer subsidies, ICW member institutions rely on the generosity of corporations, foundations, alumni, parents, and friends. By funding scholarships and financial aid, these contributions make a real impact, allowing all students - regardless of their economic status - to pursue a post-secondary education in a learning environment that is right for them.
3) Saving Taxpayer Dollars
The State of Washington gets incredible bang for the buck from independent colleges. The nearly 40,000 students at ICW institutions receive less than 2% of Washington's higher education budget in the form of financial aid, yet they earn about 25% of all the baccalaureate and higher degrees conferred in the state annually. It would cost the state almost $350 million each year to educate those students at public colleges. Donor support makes it possible to deliver these results.
4) It's Easy and Efficient
- Support 10 independent colleges in Washington with one gift
- Flexible options for focusing gifts
- 100% of every gift recieved is distributed to colleges, honoring donor intent
- Successful record of fundraising for over 55 years, averaging about 1.3 million each year in annual and endowed gifts - one of the best in the nation
