Project Opportunity LogoWith generous grants from The Safeco Foundation and The Ben B. Cheney Foundation, we are publishing new information for community college students interested in transferring, and a Spanish translation for high school students and parents. We will launch the site formally in late 2009. Read more about our outreach efforts with guidance counselors, including a chance to win an Amazon Kindle or book scholarship. And be sure to vist ProjectOpportunity.net to see the new content!

Meet Mario & Margaux

Mario Margaux

Mario from Heritage University and Margaux from Whitman College share how financial aid has been critical in making college accessible.

Governor proclaims ICW service month

Walla Walla University student volunteerIn recognition of over 500,000 hours of community service, Governor Chris Gregoire proclaimed October to be Independent Colleges of Washington Service Month

Our colleges rallied with nearly two dozen projects since the start of the year, and thousands of volunteer students, faculty, and staff. Read more about the fall service projects, as well as view the photo gallery.

Member colleges support veterans

Dr Heynderickx Signs MOUIndependent Colleges of Washington was one of several organizations to sign on as partners for veteran supportive campuses. Dr. Roy Heynderickx of Saint Martin's University signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of Independent Colleges of Washington. Read about the the impact of the Yellow Ribbon Program and other signatories in Washington.

Good news from our member colleges:

  • Financial aid rises 10%, double the rate of tuition
  • Net tuition is lower than five and ten years ago
  • Fall enrollment is up and remains strong

Clearly, our institutions’ commitment to financial aid, and good investments in grant aid from the state and federal governments, have helped keep a rigorous independent higher education affordable for everyone. Read more about financial aid increases, net price decreases, and positive enrollment at our member colleges.

Planned Giving brochureDid you receive a scholarship when you were in college?  Could you have benefited from a college scholarship?

These are all good reasons in this season of giving thanks to pay it forward by creating a scholarship fund for deserving students. Learn more about giving to Independent Colleges of Washington by clicking here.
